Here I Am, Send Me
One of the themes that I have always preached is “Nothing But Jesus” (I Corinthians 2:2). Many times when people, especially Christians, hear these three words for the first time it may jar them a bit. I have heard people say that you can’t preach this kind of radical grace because then people will “do whatever they want to do”. Some say that if you preach “Nothing But Jesus” people will just keep on sinning and never change. I understand this hesitation. We must never preach cheap grace. That is why I believe that preaching should be deep and touch the depths of the soul. We should preach the whole counsel of God and never water down the commands of Scripture. When we TRULY do that….meaning, when we TRULY preach what the Scriptures actually require of us, we will have no choice but to run to Jesus who is the “author and finisher of our faith”. When we TRULY are gripped by grace and are TRULY fixing our eyes on no one and nothing but Jesus our response won’t be to continue in sin, our response will be similar to Isaiah’s response when HE was shown the majesty and mercy of that grace of God. In fact, it isn’t possible to be TRULY gripped by the message of nothing but Jesus and to leave unchanged or to go on abusing grace! Watch for more…
