The “Little” Details of Scripture

Don’t miss the “little” details of Scripture…

When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7: 55-58

I love that Jesus is "standing" at the right hand of God when Stephen sees his vision of Heaven, before Stephen is stoned to death. Normally, Jesus "sits" at the right hand of God, yet Luke writes in Acts 7, that Jesus was standing, not sitting!

Jesus stands in our defense when we are being attacked...when we are suffering...when we are put "on trial" by mere humans...when that happens, there are really two trials happening at the same time...one on Earth, and one in Heaven. So the Sanhedrin had Stephen on trial, but the "not guilty" verdict had already been pronounced in Heaven. Stephen is so sure of the grace of God in Jesus that he can echo Jesus' words and say, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing." In other words, "the Lord will fight for you, all you need to do is be still."
