Bach’s 336th Birthday
On Bach’s 336th birthday, I want to share one of the most perfect performances I have ever heard with my FB friends who love great art. Dinu Lipatti was unable to finish the last piece of a recital due to a fever caused by Leukemia. So he slowly walked off stage, while the audience waited, and eventually re-appeared and played this piece by Bach instead. It was the last time Lipatti was heard in public...he died in December of 1950 three months later. Chorale Prelude, BWV 147, has been called the most perfect musical composition ever composed, which is not surprising since the lyrics relentlessly reflect nothing but Jesus and the composer composed only to the glory of God.
